TM’s Italian rider Davide Gozzini along with Australian KTM rider Angus Reekie both went undefeated in their respective classes at Round 1 of “The HWE Maintenance Services Australian Supermoto Championships” at the Wanneroo International Kart Track today. Gozzini was never headed in any of the races and was untroubled in winning the three races. Reekie finished a strong second to Gozzini in all three races and Linden Magee squeezed Robertson out of what would have been a stunning result, by finishing third in the final race to take the minor podium by two points.
Reekie rode superbly in the S2 class to ward off the flying Englishman Christian Iddon and was rewarded for his efforts with a clean sweep. Iddon and Linden Magee shared the minor podium places between them with Iddon taking the runner-up spot by two points. Reekie and Iddon had a great battle but the KTM suited the track a little better than the Gold Coast Aprilia VDB replica 550. I spoke to Reekie after the event and he told me, “I like the track it something different which is good. I prefer the way we raced today rather than the clockwise direction but overall it’s good.”
In the “Allpowers” race only five riders greeted the starter but what a race they put non for the spectators. Gozzini led initially but by mid-race it was Christian Iddon who got to the front following an unexpected error by the World number three and try as he may he was unable to find a way past the Englishman, and in the end he pushed just a little too hard and lost the front with two laps to run. Local star Liam Robertson (Mandurah City Yamaha 450) took the runner-up spot with another local Ian Gray (Franzone TM Racing) filled the final podium place.
