It was Sunday morning the sun was starting to break free from the clouds and everyone was waking up to the day of the Irish championship in youghal county cork, riders bursting with the hunger to get out on the new track to see how it rides.
Qualifying came along and in both Mx 1 and the Mx2 class Edmonds was the main man to beat looking smooth and in control with a comfortable 2 second gap ahead of Wayne Garrett.
MX1 race 1:
The gate dropped with a good jump from Merton, Edmonds and Gibson but Giby was the man to hold the lead with Edmonds in second followed by Merton. Edmonds strongly came to the front with in the first few corners and amazingly started to put on a very fast pace to pull out a gap of 12 seconds, but 14 mins into the race there was a RED flag and the race was ended, agreed by officials to restart the race and give the race a full demanding 25 +1 lap race.
Mx2 race 1;
The a+b mx2 group where lined up at the gate and the riders good to go. The hole shot was made by Merton with Edmonds left stalled on the start line. Amazingly Edmonds cuts threw half the pack on the first lap and was riding aggressively hitting the jumps at speed scrubbing them and using all the ruff lines just to pass as many people as possible half way stage came and Edmonds was already behind Bird chasing him down to eventually get passed him and made his way towards Garrett. The next lap around Garrett fell and it was Edmonds to take the win comfortably.
Mx1 race2:
The gate dropped yet one more time and the riders where to attack the ever so roughening track with the holeshot going to Garrett followed by Edmonds. With a tangle on the top hill Edmonds was caught up in the rope and took a lap and a half to free his bike to get going again to try make some ground on the leaders that just lapped him. Edmonds riding like a man possessed to claw back up the field to keep his points lead. Riding smooth but quick through the corners and he managed to received a well deserved 4th place in the end of the tiring 25 min moto. With one more mx 2 race left and the restart of the mx1 race all the riders that where riding the two class’s where starting to feel the fatigue.
Mx2 race 2:
Mx2 was much more straight forward. Stuart Edmonds got good start and and lead the field from the first lap pulling out a comfortable lead which he held until the chequered flag.
Mx1 race 2 restart:
Ross Brown who was riding well on the day got the holeshot with Meron in tow. Edmonds worked through from 4th to behind Brown. A good clean battle was fought for the next few laps with Brown keeping Edmonds at bay. When the opportunity came Edmonds slipped through and steadily made himself a 10 second cushion which he held at the flag.
Stuart Said “I had a good day I made it so hard for myself but at least I kept my self pushing through the day and it will only make me stronger and faster thanks to all my sponsors and I’m looking forward to the next race in fairyhouse”
